I really must question the rationale of compulsory HIV testing of substantial numbers of NHS staff recruits.

What is the cost / benefit analysis?

There has never been a single reputed case of any UK patient being infected by HIV as a result of contact with medical staff in a working capacity.

Within the global context there has only been two cases of probable cross infection, one in Florida and one in France.

With so many of our patients suffering super-bug infections as a direct result of poor cleaning standards it strikes us the Authorities are directing extra expenditure in the wrong direction

Furthermore we are concerned that it sends the wrong signal to employers to discriminate against staff from a basis of fear based on ignorance , rather than empirical and clinical evidence.
