I AM concerned, for a number of reasons, that three interpreters of Punjabi and Mirpuri are being employed at Fairfield Hospital, funded through the Health Action Zone:
This is not encouraging the integration or the learning of English which I understand is being put forward by the Government.
My mother has trouble getting an ambulance to hospital and is encouraged to get a relative to help her. Surely there are relatives who speak English who could take the responsibility to help with translation when necessary. Could volunteers from the Asian community not be recruited to help?
In this climate of Third World medical care, we could surely benefit from employing an extra doctor or nurse.
