WITH regard to the Hilton Dawson gang of five's comments about the BNP (Citizen letters, last week), I ask them to examine why such things are happening.

It is true that my parents and others went through a world war to prevent Nazism. How-ever, how are they now rewarded in old age?

The Labour-controlled Lancashire County Council under Mr Cheetham (what an appropriate name) proposes to close care homes for the elderly, including The Craggs in Morecambe where my mother lives happily, as did my father until his death.

This home underwent complete modernisation in only 1994 and conforms with all legal requirements. Despite this, the council continues to press on towards closure or - as is widely expected - changes its use to accommodate the local probation and social services. Sod the old folks, eh!

On the other hand, asylum seekers, genuine or otherwise, get handouts, housing, legal help, transport and more. Is it any wonder ordinary people despair?

I don't know whether the BNP person used a false name or not. If he did, then he was 'economical with the truth' and misled people. In other words, he lied.

But I find it an affront to my intelligence that Messrs Dawson, Henig, Barker and Bryning think this is so wrong. After all, couldn't various things locally regarding Blobbygate, sackings, contracts and so on be classed in the same mould?

Furthermore, a certain MP told voters he backed the Western Bypass prior to the last election, only to withdraw his support and back Green Party proposals later.

People in glass houses should not throw stones.

Much as I deplore the BNP, it is because of the above that ordinary voters have had enough and require action, not words.

It cannot be right that burglars go unpunished because some 'liberal minded' Lord Chief Justice says it's OK.

And it certainly cannot be right that my mother and others are being told they must leave 'The Craggs.'

The County Council should not be allowed to close it or offer it to the probation and/or social services.

All the above reasons and many more, are why groups such as the BNP are gaining footholds - because no-one is listening to the man in the street.

My parents and others fought in a war to protect freedom against such groups as the BNP. Now it's your turn to repay them, not abuse them.
