REGARDING your article on the new park and ride system, (Citizen, January 14). For this system to work it must be financially beneficial for the user.
A driver can park in the city centre for two hours for £1.20. Using the park and ride before 9.30am would cost two people £3 and four people £6. After 9.30am these costs would be £1.40 and £3 respectively.
For more people the difference is even greater. Who is going to use a system which leaves them out of pocket?
Southport's park and ride system is used to capacity. It offers the same regular bus service into the town centre and charge £1 per car.
As a regular, I have never seen the car park under-used. Perhaps Lancashire County Council could take a leaf out of their book.
