VISITORS to a Rishton pub will be able to sit down to some hearty tucker rustled-up by a chef who has cooked for a former Prime Minister of Australia.

Sam Holding, of the Shepherd's Rest, on Wilpshire Road, cooked for Premiere Paul Keeting while he lived Down Under for more than 30 years.

He came back to Blighty five years ago because his mother was ill and decided to stay in this country after meeting his partner Jaki Rae.

Sam, 53, originally from Llandudno, worked in a three star hotel in Anglesey with Jaki before they decided to strike out on their own with a pub.

Jaki, 46, from Stockport, said: "Sam lived in Sydney and worked in loads of bars, hotels and restaurants. In fact you name it, Sam's worked there.

"At the moment we're trying to get the menu right so we can cater for what people like to eat.

"We're also planning to decorate the old place as well."
