A LONG-term employee of Blackburn's Royal Ordnance Factory has died at his home in Canada after suffering a long illness.
Bernard Stevens, second son of William G Stevens, was employed at the ROF in Blackburn for 42 years as a tool-maker.
He died on January 14 at his home in Owen Sound, Ontario.
Bernard came from Woolwich in London as a teenager to join the ROF.
Bernard met King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during World War II at the Blackburn factory.
He and brother George were decorated by the Queen in 1979 for long service.
His father William was a manager of the ROF at that time.
Mr Stevens leaves a wife June, nee Haworth, who was also born in Blackburn, and an extended family in Canada and Blackburn.
