WHAT an awful situation has been created by the Labour Party National Executive, deciding to ignore the democratic choice of the local party in choosing to allow nominations from suitable candidates to serve as a prospective MP for Burnley, irrespective of ethnic, religious or sexual orientation (LET, January 29).

Surely, there is now a real risk of some decent, honest, independent candidate being elected next time -- or even the BNP taking over.
