WITH 24-goal hitman Jody Banim suspended for Saturday's home game against Lincoln United, Radcliffe Borough manager Kevin Glendon is looking to add a new striker to his squad, writes STEVE BOTT.

Whether he succeeds in time to include the new man against Lincoln remains to be seen, but he will be pulling out all the stops, for with Will Archer still struggling with a calf injury, only Richard Landon remains to fill the gap alongside Neill Hardy up front. Loan signing Simon Carden will get another run-out on Saturday after making his debut in the 3-1 win at Workington last Saturday.

The midfielder has linked up with the Boro again on a month's loan from UniBond Premier Division leaders Accrington Stanley and Glendon said: "He needs a few more games.

"He hadn't played at Accrington for a while and there were signs of that at Workington -- but there were also signs of what he is capable of.

"I think I would like to extend the loan as we have missed a week with Simon already," added Glendon. "He gives something to the team. He has got bags of energy and he scores goals. His loan finishes at the end of February.

"We will see what Simon thinks too after we have looked at how he goes in the next three or four games for us and we will have to see if we can extend the loan."

Three more points against Lincoln will add even more strength to the arguments that Boro have what it takes to clinch one of the two automatic promotion places up for grabs in UniBond Division One.

Realistically, there is only one available at the moment as leaders Alfreton are running away with it in first place, having opened up a nine-point lead over second-placed club, North Ferriby United, as well as having a game in hand on them.

Boro currently occupy fifth spot, which is the last promotion play-off place and are seven points behind North Ferriby with three games in hand on them. Ferriby also have to come to Stainton Park for the penultimate league game of the season on April 26.

Lincoln are in mid-table on 35 points, nine points behind the Boro, having played two games more.

"Lincoln have beaten North Ferriby. They started the season really well, but have had a bit of a blip recently. They are never easy to play against though and are one of our bogey sides, but after the result at Workington we will be going into the Lincoln game with bags of confidence," said Glendon.

With Banim missing, Glendon will also be looking to Neill Hardy to continue his good form of late. "Neill has looked a lot better and he has scored in his last two games," added Glendon.

Boro's outstanding young goalkeeepr Danny Hurst has spent three days on trial with Sheffield Wednesday and may well be going back to Hillsborough for the Nationwide First Division side to have another look at him.

Glendon, however, is set to put the block on such trials in future. In the past, wing back Richard Battersby went to Crewe and Hurst also trained with Manchester City, but Glendon said: "I think we are going to take a different stance on our players going on trial. I don't think it does them any good. They play for the reserves at the club they go to and it seems to make it harder for them in their next game for us when they return."
