ARMY firefighters tackled a blaze at a disused factory in Bury on Sunday evening (Feb 2).
Children are being blamed for the fire which destroyed a caravan that was being stored at the Mather Road industrial unit.
Four Green Goddesses were sent out to the Walmersley mill shortly before 8pm and quickly brought the fire under control. A crew based at Bury's Castle Armoury Drill Hall remained at the scene for several hours in case the fire had spread into the roof of the buildings.
The fire was the only notable incident across the borough dealt with by military fire crews in Bury as a result of the weekend strike action by civilian firefighters. The majority of calls involved false or faulty fire alarms.
