PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice is backing the installation of sprinklers in all new schools, public buildings and large commercial premises in East Lancashire.
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is to start a major revision of the fire safety aspect of building regulations next year.
Lancashire's combined fire authority has called for all new schools, public buildings and large commercial premises to be fitted with sprinklers.
And now Labour MP Mr Prentice has backed the call and will press Mr Prescott to improve fire precautions. He said: "This gets my full support. The installation of sprinklers, especially in schools, must be made a priority.
"The safety of the public must be ensured and I'll continue to press for this in the forthcoming review of the regulations."
