SUMMERSEAT teenager Kelvin Trippier is on the fast-track to soccer stardom after winning a scholarship with Oldham Athletic, writes PHIL THORP.

The 16-year-old Woodhey High School pupil is one of five budding stars from a squad of 19 to earn the three-year contract with the Latics.

It's a superb achievement for Kelvin who will move from his Heath Avenue home to special accommodation in Oldham complete with fitness trainers, dieticians and coach.

Kelvin has been with Oldham's School of Excellence for eight years and is now fully focused on reaching the top in his selected sport.

His father Chris said: "All the family are proud of Kelvin's achievement and it's up to him now to take advantage of this opportunity.

"Oldham's youth set-up is very well-respected in the game and he's really looking forward to getting started next season."

At the end of the three-year scholarship Kelvin will be hoping to sign a full professional contract and, if he does, their could be a double celebration in the Trippier household.

Summer 2006 is when his 12-year-old brother Kieran reaches the end of his three-year contract with Manchester City's School of Excellence and if he emulates Kelvin's achievement the Neville brothers may face competition for Bury's star soccer siblings title!
