FRIENDS of Sunnyhurst Woods are designing a sign to stop vehicles clogging up the entrance to the beauty spot.
The Friends are in the process of developing the traffic sign because too many cars are travelling down the steep path, off Earnsdale Road, to get to the woods.
Brian Winder, Friends secretary, said: "We are in need of an authorised vehicles only sign because too many cars clog up the entrance.
"Of course you will still be able to drive down if you are coming to the visitors' centre or if you are a disabled badge holder."
Dennis Gillibrand, Friends chairman, said: "We need to make the sign the appropriate size and colour because we don't want people driving up to it to get a closer look. We have to make it exactly right."
Designs are currently being drawn up with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
