Leigh Miners Rangers 48 East Leeds 4: LEIGH Miners Rangers turned on the style in the rain and mud of Twist Lane to revitalise their top two challenge and usher East Leeds towards relegation.

The platform for victory was set in a one-sided first half as Leigh made light of the conditions to post 36 unanswered points with some spectacular tries.

Credit to East Leeds, they battled gallantly to keep the scoreline respectable after the break but guts and determination had no answer to the class that the Miners showed.

Procession started

The procession started in the third minute when emergency stand-off Alan Redicliffe - the most influential figure of the first half - weaved under the posts for a six-pointer. By the quarter mark tries had been added by Trent Head, Craig Graham and Redicllife again as the scoreboard ticked over at a point a minute.

Graham and Head emulated Redicliffe with first half braces, Head's second being the pick of the game. The Aussie centre, playing his final game for the club, scorched a path through half the Leeds team from over half way to score a memorable try. Lee Patterson also scored to complete the first half scoring.

East Leeds were a dejected bunch at half time but they approached the second period with renewed determination. Forwards Adam Moore and Chris Scarisbrick were dominant in the front row and they broke their duck when Tony Gregg slipped through three tackles to score by the posts.

Even so the Miners had a tough battle on their hands and had to work hard for their last two tries. Lee Rathbone broke clear on half way before outpacing a flat defence to score. The outstanding Jon Light, with a typical 80 minutes of sheer graft, rounded things off with a close range effort.
