AN ASYLUM seeker who molested a terrified schoolgirl is awaiting sentence - but has been told he will not go to jail.

Ahmed Mohammed Karime, 26, was found guilty of indecent assault by a Burnley Crown Court jury after a four day trial.

He was bailed until April 11 for a pre-sentence report by Judge Raymond Bennett who told the defendant he would not be sending him to prison.

Karime, of St Huberts Road, Great Harwood, had denied the charge . He claimed his grandfather had died days earlier, he had been drunk and he could not remember what had happened.

Stuart Duke, prosecuting, had told the court the defendant had pushed the 14 year old victim against a wall, started to kiss her and repeatedly told her he loved her.

She eventually broke free, ran home to her grandmother and police were called. The defendant was later chased and caught by the child's father.

A scuffle took place as the father tried to restrain the defendant while police arrived.

Karime agreed to stand on an identity parade and was picked out by the victim.

Mr Duke said the girl was later shown a white T shirt with red lettering on which was recovered from the defendant's house. She said it was definitely the T shirt her attacker had worn.
