A new volleyball club is on the look out for anyone interested in taking up the sport.

The club is only three months old and is the idea of youngsters in the area who wanted to partake in a sport other than football and cricket.

Alfred Olaiya who helped set the volleyball sessions up said, "The youngsters have been very forthcoming with new ideas and volleyball club seems to have really taken off. What we want though is more youngsters to join up and I would urge anybody wanting to take part to get in touch with us."

"There are a lot of youngsters who are not being catered for because they don't play football or cricket. "

"We want young people from across the divides and it doesn't matter where you live or how good you are at sport - you are all welcome to attend."

Alfred is chairman of Beach Sporting Club which also organises football and basketball activities in Blackburn. Beach was set up over seven years ago and is based at Audley Community Centre.

Alfred added, "Organising such sessions gives youngsters something to do on weekdays and I have been impressed with the attitude of those who attend."

"We are looking at doing judo next and already have football teams playing in a series of leagues."

The volleyball club takes place at the Fielden Gymnasium at Blackburn College every Thursday night. Anyone interested in taking part can call Audley Community centre on 01254 691825.
