CLITHEROE finished off their campaign at Shawbridge with a magnificent seven-goal performance.

They now have to hope that Prescot lose their last game at Atherton Collieries on Saturday but even then there's just the small matter of 15 goals to make up in two games to deny them the North West Counties Division One title.

However, with Gary Jackson in this kind of mood anything's possible, as he had his best afternoon in a blue shirt, netting five of the seven.

Fellow striker Lee Cryer took his season's total to 25 and wide man Chris Whittingham also got on the scoresheet.

Cryer opened the scoring on 37 minutes when Jackson got to the goal line and pulled the ball across the face of the goal and four minutes later the roles were reversed as Jackson netted from a Cryer cross.

Ramsbottom had Iain Dyson sent off and the floodgates opened. Jackson added another four to his tally to reach 24 for the season, the best being a near post right foot flick from a Whittingham cross.

Whittingham rounded off a top display by Lee Sculpher's men and they now go to third placed Mossley on Saturday needing a point to secure second spot.

Ged Walsh netted a late consolation for Ramsbottom, but the day belonged to Jackson and Clitheroe.
