REGARDING your report on the call by residents for extra safety measures on the Grane Road between Blackburn and Haslingden (LET, April 25), it is not speed that causes accidents -- it's the sheer frustration of being stuck behind a lorry or tractor that can only manage 15-20mph on this road and a lack of safe overtaking areas.

Every working day I use the Grane Road to commute to Haslingden. I regularly get stuck in a crocodile of 30 to 50 cars crawling behind slow-moving vehicles. How will a speed camera stop that?

A speed camera will only penalise drivers taking a chance to overtake a slow-moving vehicle if, during overtaking, they accidentally exceed the limit while passing as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Once again, the police and the politicians drag out the speed excuse because a speed camera makes money, whereas solving the problem by building a crawler lane or banning lorries completely costs money.

Come on, politicians and senior policemen, spend the money, solve the problems. Build safe overtaking spots/crawler lanes or ban the lorries completely. Stop dragging out the old excuses and money-making schemes.

Listen to the users of the Grane Road and do the right thing.
