ATHERTON'S five star Prince's Trust Volunteers showcased their work at the end of a challenging 12 weeks programme.

The 13 strong team which revamped gardens and helped with the props for a theatre production showed off their achievements to family and friends at their final presentation at The Atherton Arms.

Made up of Christian Kenny, Thomas Billington, Daniel Clarke, Matthew Copeland, Vicki Guy, Antony Crompton, Darren Buck, Jason Worrall, Sophia Hossain, John Hewitson, Rhys Griffiths, Christopher Morris and Daniel Noakes, the volunteers made over the back gardens at Leigh's Stonehouse Resource Centre and constructed and painted the set for "The Wizard of Oz" at the Dorset Road Community Centre.

They also ran a very successful family fun day at Atherton's Early Years and Family Services Centre.

Team leader of the fifth Atherton group, Maggie McIntyre, said: "The team has worked really hard and proved to be motivated and resourceful. All of them have the ability to succeed in life and I hope the organisation has given them the realisation that they can achieve whatever they desire if they show the commitment they did to the programme."

All the team enjoyed two week work placements and two of the boys, Rhys and Christopher, found permanent jobs.

Volunteer Victoria said: "The past 12 weeks has opened my eyes to new experiences and challenges. It has really helped all of us to build confidence. The memory of the Prince's Trust will stay with me for ever and I recommend the programme to anyone."

The team wants to thank all the local businesses who donated to their success.

The next course starts on June 9 for interested 16-25 year olds. Ring Maggie on 01942 871684 for further details.
