SEVERAL Claret fans will miss Burnley's last match of the season at Wimbledon tomorrow after they appeared before magistrates.

Five were accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour around the time of Burnley's game with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. One was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Yorkshire Street, Burnley. The defendants, who all appeared separately, may face football banning orders if they are convicted of public order offences. All but one pleaded not guilty to the allegations and were bailed until June 9 for pre-trial reviews. Most were ordered not to enter any town or city where the Clarets are scheduled to play an away fixture on the day of the match. Those who appeared before Burnley magistrates on Wednesday and live in the town were: Sean Hopkinson, 35, of Brownhill Avenue, who is alleged to have been in a fight with another man after the match with Sheffield Wednesday; Damion Hartley, 31, of Swindlehurst Street; and Peter Mark Scaife, 27 of Kyan Street.

Mark Carrington, 26, of Todmorden Road, Burnley, was also accused of threatening behaviour and his case was adjourned until May 7.

Leon Mark Stubbs, 18, of Walton Lane, Nelson, denied being drunk and disorderly and was also banned from away matches. Andrew James Harrison, 22, of Fenwick Street, Burnley, pleaded not guilty to threatening behaviour and was bailed.
