ACCRINGTON Stanley ended the season on a high lifting the Peter Swales UniBond Challenge Shield for the second successive season - completing the 'double' after their Premier Division title success.
Two goals from Reds striker Paul Mullin served up a 2-0 success over UniBond President's Cup winners Marine at the Crown Ground.
However, the champions were not allowed to rest on their laurels by the Merseysiders.
It was a measure of Marine's improvement towards the end of the campaign that they had the better of the first half and gave Accrington much more of a test than in the sides' previous meetings earlier in the campaign.
And they certainly tested the Reds with a Dave Nolan header perhaps producing the best chance of the first 45 minutes but his effort was brilliantly saved by Jamie Speare.
In the opening period the Marine defence looked secure, but after a slow first half, Stanley came out looking much brighter after the break and were rewarded with two Mullin goals on 67 and 77 minutes.
Prior to the game Stanley's manager John Coleman was presented with the UniBond Club of the Month award by league officials Rob Jenkins, and Duncan Bailey.
