SHAKERS supremo Andy Preece insists his player rotation gamble will pay dividends when the play-off finalists are determined on Tuesday night.

Preece rested no fewer than six first team stars for last week's 3-0 defeat to Wrexham -- a result which pushed Bury down to seventh in the table and left them facing a tough trip to Bournemouth for the all-important second leg.

But, with the first leg kicking-off at Gigg Lane on Saturday, a scouting visit to Morecambe in midweek has endorsed his belief that fitness, rather than home advantage, will prove they key to a place in Cardiff.

"I went to watch the Morecambe against Dagenham play-off game and that really got the blood going. This is going to be really nerve wracking," he said.

"Dagenham had a crucial goal advantage and Morecambe put so much effort into getting back into the game.

"It was end to end and chance after chance. Both teams were so tired at the end and that's what it's going to be like for us.

"It's going to be draining, there's no doubt about it. So it was so important that we have managed to refresh the players who didn't play on Saturday because it's going to take a lot out of them both mentally and physically."

The importance of getting a positive result from the first leg is blindingly obvious but Preece is also keen to avoid player panic if the game is heading for a draw.

"It's very important, with us being the home side, that we get something out of the game but a draw would not be the end of the world," he said.

"We will be looking to try and win the game but, unless someone wins 4-0, the tie's not going to be over. It's just important that we don't lose."

The nature of play-off football could prove benficial to fully-fit Bury, who have struggled with consistency all season but have already pulled off some notable cup scalps including Bolton, Stoke, Barnsley and Tranmere.

"After 46 matches, it all comes down to this and it's so exciting to be involved with," said Preece.

The match will be 'pay on the day.' Season ticket holders and members must produce voucher number 24. Family Stand tickets will also be available for both home and away supporters.
