DARWEN are hoping to actually play some cricket when they host Fleetwood in the Northern Premier League tomorrow.

Last weekend they suffered a double blank, starting on Saturday when the umpires failed to show for their clash with Lancaster.

They stayed away, apparently because of previous disciplinary problems they have had with the clubs, and the game was abandoned.

But Darwen's hopes of getting the game replayed, rather than taking the points for a void result, are slim as none of the other league fixtures on Saturday were completed because of the weather.

However, Darwen chairman Peter Lamster said: "We could have been bowled out for a low score and a result would have been possible, so we want the game replayed. Lancaster are in full agreement with us.

"People were just hanging round wondering what was going on and what must the spectators have felt, especially those that travelled down from Lancaster?"

The league have refused to comment on the incident until they meet to decide on what action to take.

There was no cricket for Darwen on Monday either when their trip to Netherfield was rained off.

Chorley hope to have Stephen John back in action when they go to Blackpool in the Northern Premier League tomorrow.

The Pakistani bowler suffered a back injury in Monday's winning draw against St Annes and Chorley were unable to bowl them out for victory.

Teenage batsman Tom Smith again provided the bright spot of the Chorley innings with 71.
