MR Donelly (LET, May 2), complains about paying to park outside his house but being unable to do so on occasion.

He should consider the person who, having bought a house, including a garage, then has to pay Council Tax on it, insure and maintain it and lose interest on the capital whilst leaving the highways clear for others.

It seems Mr Donelly should be grateful that he is able, for a no doubt nominal fee, to be able to park at his own front door, possibly denying the use of that area to other road users while having it maintained at the expense of the public.
