A HALF-NAKED father of four involved in an early hours street rumpus threatened to kill nightclub doormen, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how George Wray, 42, said he was going to get a gun and ended up being arrested after clenching his fists and shouting abuse.

Jobless Wray, of Melrose Avenue, Burnley, admitted threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months, with £55 costs. The bench allowed a current community rehabilitation order to continue.

Andy Robinsin, prosecuting, told the court police were called to Churchills in Burnley. The defendant was in the street. He did not have his shirt on and appeared to be very agitated.

He approached the police vehicle, complained he had been thrown out of the club and said he was going to get a gun and shoot them all.

The defendant was arrested after shouting abuse. Wray had 18 previous convictions for public order offences.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Wray, who had spent 12 hours in custody, had been doing well after recently being placed on an Addressing Substance Related Offending programme. Unfortunately he fell by the wayside with this offence and he accepted that.

He had gone to Churchills to speak to his brother, had been drinking and after about an hour was told he would have to leave. He demanded to know why and the next thing he knew he was on his back and thrown out of the club.
