THIS Saturday I'm going to become a Southampton fan for the day. That's right! Me, my grandad, and a couple of my mates are heading down to Cardiff to cheer on the Saints in the FA Cup final.

And so will half of Great Harwood by the sounds of it to show their support for local boy Brett Ormerod.

I've known Brett for a while now and the whole of Harwood is proud of the fact that one of its most famous sons will be playing in the Cup final.

I've got nothing but admiration for the way Brett has resurrected his career.

Not only has he bounced back from the disappointment of being released by Rovers, but he's also overcome a couple of serious injuries to firmly establish himself in the Premiership.

Now he stands on the verge of fulfilling every footballer's dream by appearing in an FA Cup final.

And what a story that would be if a guy who once used to ply his trade with Accrington Stanley popped up with the winner in Cardiff.

That would be real 'Roy of the Rovers' stuff but it's not beyond the realms of possibility given his electric performance in the semi-final.

So let's keep our fingers crossed that Brett can do it.

I'm sure Harwood will resemble a ghost town on Saturday afternoon as a result of the mass exodus.

Even a few Rishtoners are throwing their weight behind the 'Back Brett Campaign' as his brother, Darren, is also making the trip!

In the meantime, I'm also looking forward to Sunday's testimonial for Simon Garner.

Being a Blackburn fan myself, I know how much of a legend Garns really is and I'm glad to be doing my bit for the cause.

He was a huge hero of mine when I used to stand on the Blackburn End and I really hope plenty of fans get down to Ewood on Sunday to show their support for one of the club's greatest ever servants.

It's easy to forget what he did for Rovers because he played in the pre-Jack Walker era.

But I vividly remember him scoring that hat-trick against Man City to break the club's scoring record which is a fabulous achievement.

After Sunday, I'm then off to Majorca for a holiday.

It's been a great season from the club's point of view and to finish sixth last Sunday was a brilliant effort.

Personally speaking, though, the last nine months or so have been frustrating because of all my injury problems and stuff.

I never got a proper run in the team as a result of that and that was a huge disappointment.
