I AM writing to express my concerns about the proposed development of Jubilee Gardens and encourage other residents of Cleveleys and surrounding areas to voice their opposition.

After some thought and discussion with neighbours I would like to raise the following points for the attention of those residents who have not considered the adverse effects that this development would cause.

1. Extra traffic from Fleetwood, Thornton and North Blackpool areas would be created. How would this traffic reach the proposed development? The road layout currently feeding Cleveleys is totally inadewquare and as a sufferer living on one of the rat runs which, the local council will not apply speed restricting measures, although one child has been run over in the last 18 months. If this development goes ahead there will be many more rat runs created by drivers who want a shortcut to the development and they could use your street, road or avenue.

2. A removal of local green areas for families and children to go in relative safety and at little monetary cost to parents. I don't know if the beach cleaning programme has been stopped but currently the beaches around Jubilee Gardens and further north are in an absolutely disgraceful state so I don't want to go on the beach and I certainly do not want my children playing on the beach. Children and families currently use Jubilee Gardens to relax, play games and generally have a good time. If the proposals go ahead then people from the area of the gardens would need to travel to North Drive Park, which is only small and relatively basic, to enjoy family time at a free leisure complex provided by this local authority or alternatively play ball games in your street, road or avenue.

3. Voicing your concerns is absolutely essential. If you don't then the park will be gone and you will be looking at more fast food wrappers in the streets, far more traffic and more noice late at night. I have lived in the area for five years and when we moved here we had nice sea views, then a planning application was put forward for the land in front of our house for three block of flats. Many people who were immediately affected by this, voiced their opposition to the council concerned about the increase in traffic on our road and asking for traffic calming measures at the time. There were some replies from the local authority but in the end all concerns from local residents were ignored and the building went ahead. This was due to the fact that not enough people wrote letters or telephoned their local councillors or prospective councillors to voice their opposition.

In the case of Jubilee Gardens if people do not stand up and be counted in opposition to this development of the local authority will ignore the few who are vocal in their opposition and class everyone else as being in favour of the development of our only green space will go ahead to everyones loss.

This development is surely one of the ;main topics which should be highlighted on political party flyers which we are all receivcing through our doors at the moment, however of the two I have received currently, there is no mention of opposition and it is as if the decision has been made. I know that planning applications have not been submitted to date but they are due within the next couple of weeks.

I hope this letter will encourage local people to ask questions of councillors as to where they stand on this. So lets keep our green space
