A MAN has undergone emergency surgery after crushing a leg when his van crashed into a lorry parked in a lay-by.

Joseph Walsh, 32, of Stockport, was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary following the accident on the A56 near Huncoat yesterday. The carriageway was closed for three hours.

He was detained overnight and also treated for minor cuts and bruises to his head and chest.

Police were today waiting to speak to Mr Walsh as they tried to discover what happened. The driver of the lorry was unharmed.
