POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a ram raid on Chatburn Post Office.

Raiders drove a four-by-four vehicle through the front window of the post office yesterday, then made off with a cash machine in a stolen sports car.

The postmaster woke to the sound of the stolen Mitsubishi pick-up truck smashing through the front window.

DI Simon Giles said a stolen Mitsubishi pick-up was used to ram into the window and offenders took a free-standing cash machine and got away in a Subaru Imprezza stolen from Barrow.

"We recovered the Misubishi from the scene and it is undergoing forensic examination, but we are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything to it to contact us without delay."
