I THINK Mrs H Hamer's suggestion (Letters, May 17) that our postmen adopt the Dutch post office's method of rubber band control and accounting is stretching things a bit far.

I agree they should be flexible, but as a band, the postal workers union can hardly be described as elastic when it comes to restraint. They are more for bouncing management, trying them in knots and stringing them along.

Besides, such a scheme would mean I will have to start buying rubber bands which will stretch my disposable income and I regard discarded postal rubber bands as disposable incomings.
