PUPILS at a local school are celebrating, after an idea they had resulted in a significant boost to their latest fundraising project.

Tottington High School students have been working hard to raise the £50,000 they need to apply for specialist school status in maths and computing.

After coming up with the idea of holding a star prize raffle, the children had to come up with the funds to purchase the prizes.

A non-uniform day raised a total of £750, but thanks to several local companies, a widescreen television, DVD player and mobile phone were donated.

This meant that the children could add that value to the total ticket sales, resulting in a grand total of £2,950.

Joyce Kinsey, school publicity officer said: "It was a real boost, and has brought us closer to the total. We are getting near now, with the fund standing at around £45,000."
