A FORMER Bowerham woman has been named as the Sussex 'Sportswoman of the Year'.

Adele Burrow set up her own sports club soon after she left the area to go to Sussex University in Brighton.

And it has helped her sweep the board at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

Not only is the 21-year-old the top sportswoman in her adopted county but the club she founded - called SXtreme - is the official University Sports Club of the Year.

"It was a complete surprise. I didn't even realise I was nominated," says Adele.

She created 'SXtreme' when

she realised there were no 'adrenalin sports' available at the University and says: "It is lots of fun and aimed at those who may never have done mad stuff like this before."

Adele's success followed her recent election as the Students' Union sports and activities officer for next year, which will see her play a major role in organising and promoting Sussex sport.
