AT BROADWATER on Saturday Fleetwood comprehensively defeated Lancaster in their Northern Premier League clash by seven wickets.

Lancaster were put in to bat and were bowled out for just 87 in 47 overs. Fleetwood replied with 88-3 and had the game over shortly after six o'clock.

Lancaster's innings stumbled from the start with Danny Hagan run out for five with the total on eight after a direct hit on the stumps by a football style kick from the alert Dave Fish.

Ian Burstow, nine, followed him to the pavilion at 14 when John Wright held on to a splendid catch at short leg off Hill and when professional Renier Munnik was adjudged caught behind by James Ellis off Hill from the very next ball, Lancaster were in trouble at 14-3.

David Heywood passed 10,000 League runs but only made 11 before he was caught and bowled by Paul Hague at 26-4 and it was 49-5 when Luke Phillips was caught by Hill off Hague for 10. Lee Sparks played the shot of the day when he drove Hague through extra cover for four but the bowler quickly had his revenge when he brought a ball back sharply to remove the off stump leaving Lancaster at 54-6.

Craig Heywood made three before Lloyd Ferreira caught him off Zac Taylor and when the main resistance was removed, Ian Parkinson who made a fighting 29, it was almost all over.

Parkinson gave Michael Clinning a return catch and then Taylor bowled Paul Dennison for four and Clinning repeated the dose for Graham Barnes who made one.

Chris Glover was left not out one and Lancaster were routed for 87 with four Fleetwood bowlers sharing the wickets cheaply.

Fleetwood's reply started badly as John Wright played on to Glover for 13 but Michael Dewhurst and Ferreira put on 55 to take Fleetwood close to victory. Ferreira, 27, was then leg before wicket to Dennison and although Clinning gave Glover a simple return catch when he had made four, Dewhurst 32 not out, and John Whalley whose single was the winning run saw their side home to take the 12 points.

Meanwhile at Leyland Motors, Blackpool professional Deon Kruis had a field day. He took a splendid 8-47 to dismiss the home side for 132 of which professional Asif Ashraf made 61.

Steven Croft then replied with a mature 58 not out to see Blackpool to 133-4 and their first victory of the season. And on Sunday Blackpool kept up their winning ways with an easy 62-run victory over Winton of the Manchester Association in the first round of the Thwaites LCB Cup.

Kruis made 82 and Croft 62 not out in Blackpool's total of 207-3 and then Winton limped to 145-9 from their 45 overs.

BLACKPOOL'S winning weekend came to a stuttering halt at Broadwater on Monday when in their Northern Premier League clash, Fleetwood were victorious by eight wickets.

Blackpool, put in to bat, made a paltry 115 in 55.5 overs to which Fleetwood replied with 116-2, rushing to victory on the first ball of the 24th over.

Steve Hill set Blackpool on their rocky slope by inducing Chris Simcock to play on without scoring and with only a leg bye on the scoreboard.

Chris Barrow and Mark Lomas then took the total to 34 before the former was caught by John Wright off Hill for 15.

Lomas made 34 before he too fell to a catch by Wright, this time off Michael Clinning and Blackpool were 56-3.

Meanwhile Deon Kruis looked strangely out of sorts and after he had faced 44 balls, and give a couple of chances that were declined, he was caught as slip by Clinning off Dave Fish and that was 60-4.

It soon became 67-6 as two wickets fell in successive balls in similar fashion. Fish had Paul Danson, six, leg before wicket and then Paul Sidebotham succumbed first ball.

Steve Mercer, 16, and John Caunce, 12, put up some resistance before Clinning trapped Caunce back on his crease and the ball rushed through to bowl him at 84-7.

Mercer was run out in a close call at 97-8 and then it was left to that espouser of lost causes Martin Hackett to make the most of what was left.

He coped admirably and made a Blackpool-best of 19 not out before he lost Dave Higham, bowled Clinning for nought, and debutante Ross Parker, caught by Michael Dewhurst off the returning Hill for one.

Blackpool were 115 all out with Hill taking 3-32, Fish 3-57 and Clinning an excellent 3-18 from 18 immaculate overs.

Fleetwood's reply began in a rush as John Wright played shots all round the field and there was 68 on the board before the first wicket went down. That was Dewhurst who edged Kruis through to Hackett for 12 and then with the total on 87 Wright, much to his disgust, pulled a rank long hop from Parker straight to Kruis at mid-wicket and he was gone for 60 made from only 48 balls with one six and eight fours.

It was then left to Lloyd Ferreira, 20 not out, and Clinning, 12 not out, to administer the last rites as Fleetwood cruised quickly to 116-2 and an eight-wicket victory that took them sixth in the table.

Blackpool meanwhile fell to next-to-bottom and will have to improve vastly to pull away.

St Annes, whose game on Saturday at Netherfield was abandoned, could only draw with improving Preston whose 175-9 proved too many for the St Annes batsmen who mustered 155-9 before time was called. Geoff Love took the bowling honours with 5-45 while Pervez Shah had 5-39 for Preston.
