MUTUAL respect and trust are key themes in an exciting new arts venture at Westleigh Methodist Primary School.

As part of the school's drive to develop community links, pupils have been working with artist in residence Jane Fairhurst to create a unique wall mural on the topic of relationships and feelings.

Locals and Westleigh High pupils have joined the primary children to help create the artwork.

Headteacher Anne Bowyer said: "This is such an exciting project and it is wonderful to see young and old working side by side.

"The project gives the children and residents a chance to talk and to get to know each other in a way that has never happened before -- and our aim is to strengthen their relationship.

"The future of the community lies in the hands of our children and it is our job as educators to prepare them for that role and to make them the good citizens of tomorrow."

The finished mural will be displayed in the school's main corridor.
