As back-handed compliments go, I think I have found the best one yet!

For I was looking at the list of names for Sunday's Farleys Fun Fives Football Festival and what should I come across -- a team called Tinniswood Who?

Naturally, it got me thinking who could do such a thing -- one of the now defunct Mad Caps Trio sprung to mind or maybe someone who had been unhappy with one of my recent Cup Final Frenzy reports.

But further digging (actually, the real name of the team appeared next to the fun name) revealed it was my old foe Terence of the Lamb who had brought my name into 'disrepute'.

Naturally, my first reaction was to dig out one of those hilarious old pictures of Terry 'playing' but it was so long ago they are no longer on the system.

But then I thought it was probably the closest Terry could come to giving me a compliment -- obviously trying to butter me up to present his team's trophies later this month.

Obviously, I have to remain neutral when it comes to reporting on local football but I must admit I will have more than a passing interest in Accoutre 'A' under 11s fate this weekend.

And if Accoutre go on and win, I supposed I'd better beat Terry to the punch line and say: "It's the first time Tinniswood won anything!"

Farleys Fun Fives takes place at Witton Park on Sunday from 10am to 4pm at Boys under 11s and 13s, girls under 12s and senior men's and ladies.

Good luck to everyone -- especially Tinniswood Who?

I know exactly what Wicket Whisper columnist Granville Thompson means when it comes to rain-affected cricket.

Granville says his Nelson under 15s team have yet to complete a game in eight attempts. I was trying to get my first game of the season under my belt but got the same result -- no result!

I made an ill-fated trip to Towneley Park on Sunday to watch Hussainia take on Leyland Motors in the Alliance 2000 League. But the only action myself and photographer Steve Bateson got to see was the 10 yard sprint both sides made to the shelter of the trees for their mandatory team pictures -- well, we weren't travelling all that way for nothing!

Hussainia skipper and fellow Wicket Whisperer, Ejaz Hussain said he would give it an hour for the wicket to dry out. But as I left and the heavens opened I thought he was being a little optimistic.

And all this came a day after a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon!

Terry Fildes has returned to Burnley Belvedere with an aim of restoring the club to its former glory.

The experienced Non League manager -- who has had stints at Bacup, Padiham and Nelson -- has stepped out of self-imposed exile to take over the running of the West Lancashire League club.

Fildes has already called on a few contacts to set up pre-season friendlies against Burnley 'A' and Doncaster Rovers Reserves. So if you want to be a part of the Fyldes Revolution, training starts this Friday at Belvedere from 7pm. Any players interested should phone 07751 579124.
