BLACKPOOL Sea Eagles won their first match in the Rugby League Conference on Saturday dumping the new Lancaster RLFC team to the bottom of the league.

Blistering 15 minute spells either side of half time overcame stubborn resistance at the Giant Axe as the Sea Eagles swooped for a 38-20 winning margin.

The game started brightly enough for Lancaster, who appeared to be in control as top-scorer Andy Garnett put over a couple of penalty goals for various infringements.

However it all changed midway through the first half as Blackpool began scoring almost at will - and each try gave them another set of six with which to attack Lancaster as the game restarted.

The hosts finally got some possession near the end and showed the Sea Eagles and the home supporters what could be done with the ball, scoring three tries in quick succession through Darren Clarke, Liam Hall and Rob Shaw.

But it was a case of too little, too late, as Blackpool took the two points on offer back home along the coast with them.

Speaking after the match Lancaster skipper Rob Shaw said: "At the moment, inconsistency is our biggest problem. We are only playing in 15 or 20 minute spells and our defence is nothing short of woeful at times.

"This week we will be concentrating on it in training. If we can keep improving a bit each week, we will move forward - though we face a stern test this week."

That test comes in the shape of top-of-the-table Carlisle Centurions on Saturday at Giant Axe (KO 2.30pm)..
