A LATE-night dispute between Shane Michael Pemberton and his ex-girlfriend attracted the attention of the police and neighbours.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Pemberton was eventually arrested as nearby residents came to their windows and demanded peace and quiet.

Pemberton, 19, of Oakenhurst Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was fined £60 with £30 costs and ordered to pay £50 for being in breach of a conditional discharge.

Julie Reilly, prosecuting, said police who arrived in Oakenhurst Road shortly after midnight saw Pemberton arguing with a female.

The woman left but Pemberton continued to shout abuse at police. "By this time neighbours were looking out of their windows and asking for some quiet," said Mrs Reilly.

Pemberton refused to calm down and was arrested. He told police he had a pen-knife in his pocket.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said Pemberton had been involved in a three year relationship which had come to an acrimonious end with disputes over property.

"In the end he gave her a key and told her to take whatever she thought was appropriate," said Mr Ditta.

"He did not expect her to come at that time of night and there was a further dispute because she was taking things he thought were his. He felt the police were not dealing with the situation properly."
