LORENZO Amoruso claims he will sign for Blackburn next week.

Blackburn have already had a £1.4m bid for the Italian defender accepted by the Scottish giants.

And Amoruso has broken his silence to reveal he will link up with Rovers once he undergoes the formalities of a medical early next week.

Amoruso, who is being forced out of Ibrox as part of a cost-cutting exercise, said: "Everything should be finalised with Blackburn after I complete my medical.

"Graeme Souness and I have reached an agreement, but I had to wait until the Blackburn chief Executive returned from his holiday before anything could happen.

"This is a new challenge for me and one that I'm delighted to take on."

Chief Executive John Williams returns from holiday on Monday, given some idea of the timescale involved in securing Amoruso's signature.

Several national reports have already jumped the gun and claimed Amoruso has already put pen to paper at Ewood.

But earlier today, Rovers boss Souness shot down Glasgow-based reports that the switch had been completed.

Souness confirmed: "It's not true to say Lorenzo is now a Blackburn player.

"Our chief executive, John Williams, is still away on holiday until next week, so there will be no further developments until then."
