PARENTS campaigning for play equipment for their children were getting their chance to vote on a range of proposals today at a public consultation.

Residents in the Spring Hill area of Accrington staged a protest in November demanding the return a set of swings that had been removed from nearby land by a neighbour.

Now Hyndburn Council has drawn up three different proposals for a piece of its land near Spring Vale, Accrington, and residents were voting on them at two special sessions today .

The ideas for the land range from low level planting, to extensive tree and shrub planting, and the provision of footpaths to the site, either with or without play equipment.

Depending on which one is selected the cost could be anything from £20,000 to £50,000.

Leaflets have been circulated to residents in the area outlining the schemes.

The first meetings was being held from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at Fairfield Community Centre, Fairfield Street, and the second from 4.30pm to 8pm at Spring Hill Club, Pickup Street.

Feedback from the meetings will be taken into account, along with the voting, in deciding which project will be undertaken.

Work will be done by Groundwork East Lancashire as part of its Action PACT environmental improvement programme.
