NICHOLAS Joseph Dawson punched his ex-girlfriend in the face when he saw her out with another man.

And Blackburn magistrates heard it was the second time he had assaulted her since they split.

Dawson, 41, of Malham Gardens, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assault. He was made subject to a community rehabilitation order for 12 months and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £120 costs.

Eddie Harrison, prosecuting, said Jacqueline Loynds was out with her new partner when Dawson approached and punched her in the face.

Michael Blacklidge, defending, said the offence had breached a civil order that Miss Loynds had obtained against Dawson. He was sentenced to five months in prison for breaching the injunction.

In effect he has already served a significant period in custody as a result of this incident, said Mr Blacklidge.
