THE monthly meeting of the parish council was held on Friday at the Village Hall, with Coun E Heys as chairman.

Several residents attended to raise matters with the council, and these were dealt with at the benning of the meeting.

IT WAS stated that the toilets in Burnley Road are once again being used for inappropriate purposes, and after discussion on how to deal with this councillors decided to ask Burnley Borough Council to close the toilets.

COMPLAINTS of unlit street lamps, and overgrown trees and shrubs along the footpath on Burnley Road opposite Mount Zion were put by residents. The council will contact the appropriate authorities to have these matters dealt with.

THE speed of traffic through the village, particularly on the A646, was again a cause of concern to residents. The council are to seek a grant for a public awareness campaign as part of the Cliviger Challenge.

AFTER concerns raised at the previous meeting it was confirmed that the public footpath from Mount Lane, near Meadow Top, to Burnley Road is marked, and a stile is provided for access.

THE council was informed by their representative on the governing body of Cliviger Holme Primary School that with effect from April 2004 they will no longer have the right to appoint a school governor, due to changes in legislation.

DETAILS of a second appeal for extraction of coal and clay from land at Thieveley Colliery were discussed. The parish council objected to this application previously on environmental grounds and will do so again.

SIGNS are to be erected in Green Lane prohibiting motor vehicles, except for access.
