ELSA the Bengal eagle owl and her friends swooped down on Blackburn's Asda superstore for a magical treat for youngsters.

Elsa was joined in the foyer by Cyril the squirrel, Beavy the tawny owl, Brindle the little owl, Broughton the baby tawny owl, Meggy the magpie, Ronnie the rook and Vickie the fox cub.

The animals from Blackburn's Wild-Life-Line animal sanctuary visited Asda as part of a special Harry Potter day celebrating the launch of JK Rowling's blockbuster.

Helen Adsett, manager of the sanctuary, said the children loved the owls because of the appearance of the bird in the book, but it was one of the other animals that stole the show.

She said: "The can't put Vickie the fox cub down. She's in the cute stage and is about the size of an eight-week old puppy."

The sanctuary rescues injured animals and relies on donations. If anybody would like to contribute, cheques payable to Wild-Life-Line should be sent to to Springfield Vets, 144 Redlam, Blackburn.
