TWO men were being questioned by murder squad police today after a man's body was found at a caravan park in Haslingden.

Police were called to Holden Valley Caravan Park off Grane Road, when the body was found, just before 8am yesterday.

After a murder inquiry was launched, detectives said early examinations suggested the man had died of stab wounds.

A post mortem examination was due to be carried out by a pathologist yesterday.

Police said they would be unable to confirm the cause of death until the examination had been completed.

The caravan park, next to Holden Mill, was sealed off yesterday as detectives carried out an examination of the scene.

Officers also sealed off an area of public seating and a telephone box in Lower Deardengate, close to Haslingden town centre.

Forensic science officers working in Lower Deardengate refused to reveal if their investigation was linked to the murder inquiry.

Detective Superintendent Paul Buschini said: "Early indications suggest the victim was stabbed. But we will not know for certain until a post mortem examination has been carried out."

Police said he was known to have a large extended family and insisted they would not be naming the man until they had been informed.

At the caravan site yesterday several residents said they were aware of the incident, but were unsure of the victim's identity.

Earlier this year a man was jailed after chopping his friend's arm off at the caravan site. Jason Booth, 33, was sentenced to life behind bars for the attack last November.
