YOUNG Westleythers can sign up for a bumper summer of fun.

Next Wednesday (July 4) between 7pm and 9pm the 'Trees' Estate Community Board will hold a registration evening at St Paul's Labour Club.

A wide range of free school holiday activities are on offer, including arts & crafts, face painting, games, stories, cooking and sports for five to 11 year olds, with barbecues, canoeing and archery available for 11-25 year olds.

Council, police and community leaders have put together the following programme:

Wednesday, July 23-30, and August 6, 13 & 20 (10.30am-12.30pm) - free play activities for 5-11's at St Paul's Primary School, School Street

Monday, July 21-25 - canoeing at Pennington Flash for 11-25 year olds

Tuesday, 29th July - 11-25's BBQ

Friday, August 1 - 11-25 year olds 'information and activity' day

Thursday, August 7 - 11-25 year olds 'archery' day at Haigh Hall

Thursday, August 14 - 'Play Day', Westleigh Park, 10am

Friday, August 15 - canoeing at Pennington Flash for 11-25 year olds

Monday, August 18 - 11-25 year olds 'information and activity' day

Tuesday, August 19- 11-25's BBQ

Wednesday, August 27 - 5-11's 'party time' at St Paul's

Board member and local councillor, Ann Turnock said: "Young people in Westleigh have all kinds of exciting opportunities available this summer and publicity leaflets will be landing on doormats across the estate this week.

"It's simply a case of choosing which of the free activities and trips interest you most, then going along to St Paul's Labour Club next Wednesday night to register."

Specialist football and basketball summer camps are being held at Westleigh High School during the holidays. From Monday, August 21- Friday 25th August, six-14 year olds can fine tune preparations for the new football season - phone Bill on 01942 824599 to book a place.

Basketball camp is on the weekend of August 26th/27th, with six-16 year olds invited to book their place with Lyndsey on 01942 404982.
