ARTHRITIS and the services given to sufferers should be a national priority, according to Pendle MP Gordon Prentice.

Mr Prentice said: "One in five people live with arthritis and it affects people of all ages. We often think of it as affecting the elderly but there are 12,000 children in the UK with arthritis and approximately 27,000 people under the age of 25. It is the leading cause of disability.

"The organisation Arthritis Care is calling for a national strategy and has received the backing of some 250 MPs.

"It is known that the right blend of treatments and support can have a dramatic effect on quality of life."
