BURNLEY players returned to training yesterday, sporting the new squad numbers handed down by manager Stan Ternent.

And ths shirts tantalisingly offer up a few clues to the Clarets' anticipated line-up for the forthcoming season.

New signing Lee Roche has pinched the number two, right back shirt from Dean West, who will now wear 15.

That could mean former Manchester United rookie Roche will replace West in the defensive unit, providing Ternent opts for a traditional flat back four.

Guinean defender Mo Camara will don the number three shirt as the anticipated left back, while ex-West Brom keeper Brian Jensen, who begins training with his new team mates next week, naturally replaces Nik Michopoulos as the number one.

Interestingly, the number five shirt vacated by Steve Davis has been left blank, hinting that Ternent is still hunting for a new centre back to partner Graham Branch, who becomes the new number six.

Paul Weller seems certain to fill one of the central midfield roles after being handed number four, while fellow midfielder Tony Grant retains his number 12 shirt.

In attack, Robbie Blake loses number 27 in favour of eight and Ian Moore takes over Andy Payton's old number 10 shirt.

Interestingly, there are still plenty of empty spaces, indicating that Ternent's summer shopping spree is far from over.
