ROLL up, roll up -- an auction with a difference is being held to clean up Preston houses.

Young charity champs in the Brookfield area have put their heads together and come up with an unusual way of raising cash for youth groups on the estate.

Next month they will be holding a human auction, with teams of youngsters "sold off" to households for an hour, to help with odd jobs like washing up.

Adam Bully, 15, secretary of the youth forum, based at the Brookfield Space Place, Langcliffe Road, is one of the hard working teens behind the scheme.

Adam, a pupil at Corpus Christi High School, said: "Someone just said 'let's try and run a human auction', so we've been holding meetings every Tuesday to try and sort it out.

"We are going to auction people off in groups of three with an adult, for an hour. If they want them again they have to go back and bid." The event, on August 2, will be held in the Garrison pub, Watling Street Road, and a DJ will be supplying the entertainment.

Anybody with jobs around the house on the estate can pop along to the pub and bid for the young workers.

The teenagers are already experienced at helping out elderly and disabled people on the estate in the Dreamscheme programme, run by the Space Place community centre.

Pam Cooper, of Brookfield United Residents' Association, said: "They've had to look at health and safety, the posters and the invitations. I've supported the idea but the young people are organising it."

Cash raised from the event will go towards helping run some of the youth groups that meet at the Space Place including after-school clubs, a dance club and DJ workshops.
