LEIGHTON Hall this weekend hosts its annual classic car rally.

Up to 500 vintage vehicles, including classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractors and even World War II jeeps, meet for the Fifth Lakeland Classic Car Rally at the historic hall at Yealand, near Carnforth.

And they will be joined by traditional children's attractions and an auto jumble where original, but obsolete car parts can be bought.

Last year more than 1,800 people attended the Leighton event - together with almost 1,000 people involved with exhibitions and attractions.

Organiser Mark Woodward says: "Leighton Hall is really the most magnificent venue. It's a wonderful sight to see hundreds of immaculate and gleaming classic cars sweeping down the long drive where they look very much at home."

And Suzie Reynolds, owner of Leighton Hall, says: "It's great fun looking round. Visitors get very excited when they see an example of the car they learned to drive in or something their grandad used to own. This is a day of lovely nostalgia and, though there is so much happening, it still seems to have a gentle pace!"

The Lakeland Classic Car Rally at Leighton Hall is open 10am _ 4pm on Sunday. Admission is £5 for adults and £4 for senior citizens, with children free.
