PROUD Atherton gardeners could win £250, and photographers can cash in too.

Entries must be in by the end of the month for a best garden competition backed by Brighter Borough funding.

"If you have got a plot to be proud of -- show us!" invites town councillor Sue Loudon, who has helped organise the pride in Atherton competition along with colleagues Reg Holmes and Mark Aldred.

Entries must be from the Atherton area, and the garden must be next to the road. Closing date for entries is 4.30pm on August 1 and judging will take place on August 8 and 9.

If you want to be sure your garden qualifies you can check on a boundary map at Atherton Town Hall to where entries, on official forms, should be returned.

More cash is on offer in another Brighter Borough competition for Atherton and Hindsford photographers who have images they have taken of buildings and the natural environment of the area where they live.

Prizes of £50 and £100 are offered for the under 16 years and adult categories.

Entries must have been taken in Atherton or Hindsford within the last 12 months and be no larger than A4 size. The photographer must live in the area. Entries on official forms should be returned to Atherton Town Hall by 4.30pm on August 1. Judging is on August 10. Entry forms for both competitions are available at the Town Hall.
