A RUGBY League-mad grandad who died in February after being struck by a vehicle just yards from his local pub, was remembered by regulars who challenged Leigh East to a charity rugby match.

Friends and family of Jack Sharrock cheered as a team from the Royal Oak pub in Leigh beat East 44-22 at Grasmere Street to win a trophy dedicated to the memory of the former joiner from Wigan Road.

Jack was the coach of Leigh East Under 13s and his proud wife, Kath, presented the trophy to son Gary, who played for Royal Oak, and grandson Gareth.

The match raised £550 for Leigh East and the Sharrocks are grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success. Now the Jack Sharrock Memorial Trophy match will become an annual contest.
