OHN Coleman will run the rule over new signings and trialists when Accrington Stanley play their first pre-season friendly on Sunday.

The Reds travel to Radcliffe Borough as preparations get under way for the big Conference kick-off at Aldershot on August 10.

The Stanley manager revealed on-trial goalkeeper Michael Bingham would be likely to play some part in the game following his release from Blackburn Rovers.

A host of other trialists could feature as Coleman looks to add to his list of pre-season signings.

"The pre-season games are great because you get a better idea of how players are going to perform, the pattern of play we'll adopt and players we want," the Reds chief said.

"I'm pleased with the signings I've made so far because we've got a good bit of experience with Paul Cook and Gordon Armstrong.

"They've settled in well because they have no airs and graces about them and are very enthusiastic about what they do, which is the type of player we're looking for.

"I think it's important to have a bit of experience in the side - players who have played around, still have desire and still want to be successful whatever level they play at.

"And we have youth in Darren Connell.

"He's played in the Conference with Scarborough and had a loan spell at Barrow and he's scored a few goals.

"He's only 21 as well so he's young enough to keep improving and hopefully he'll do that with us."

Coleman will also be able to assess Nigerian Abel Ighofose during the pre-season friendlies, although the midfielder - who will be with Stanley for a month - may miss Sunday's game after picking up an ankle injury in training.

He added that the club had been inundated with players from all around the globe requesting trials.

"We've had more enquiries than ever before. We're having a look at some but the logistics mean we couldn't take them all on," he said.

Stanley take on Radcliffe at Stainton Park on Sunday (kick-off 2pm) then entertain Blackpool on Tuesday at their newly named Interlink Express Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm).
